Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)Rite of the Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the conversion process by which non-baptized adults (catechumens) and baptized Christians (candidates) are fully initiated into the Catholic Church. RCIA is an opportunity for people to learn about the doctrine of the Catholic faith and appropriate it as their own. At St. Monica's there are a core team of leaders, speakers, and sponsors who will be available to teach, answer questions, dialogue, and support the candidates and catechumens on this journey of spiritual conversion. RCIA is a time of prayerful discernment marked by freedom. All adults who are interested in becoming Catholic are welcome to attend RCIA. No one is obligated to become Catholic. Adults who are ready to become fully initiated will receive the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) at the Easter vigil. RCIA sessions are held on a weekly basis on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. in the lower lounge Room 109 in the Family Center. The first inquiry session will be held on September 14, 2010. RCIA meetings also include Breaking Open of the Word, a time of reflection on the Sunday Gospel reading on Sunday mornings. Candidates and Catechumens attend 9 a.m. mass and are dismissed after the homily is read for a time of reading and reflection on Sacred Scripture. For more information on RCIA or on how to become a sponsor or core team leader, please contact: Mariangela Byrne at: (214) 357-8549; mbyrne@stmonicachurch.org.
