Thanks to all who helped out last weekendWe hope the boys who participated in last weekend’s Waterskiing and Fishing campout had a good time. A number of the boys fulfilled the toughest requirements for either Fishing or Waterskiing merit badges – or both. It is not possible to put on an event like this without the help of many people. To paraphrase Hillary Clinton (of all people): “It takes a village” to run a campout – and we had a whole town full of folks who helped make the past weekend a success. A number of non-scout related adults helped greatly with the campout - Bill Llewellyn – our Fishing Guide who donated his time, his expertise, his patience – not to mention many pounds of his catfish & sandbass
- Darryl Waschman, Parker Amy’s uncle, who spent an entire day on the water driving the boat and helping teaching scouts to waterski
- Toni and Joe Watson from JT’s Boat Rental – who gave us a great rate and also allowed us to load/unload the boys at our campsite
- Nick Hilgeman from Hidden Cove Park – who arranged for us to enter and camp free (as part of the service project) – and also dealt with a less than friendly intruder onto our site
- All the people at the Park front gate who were as nice as could be
Many of the usual suspects among the adult leaders – and some newer faces also were a huge help - Kurt Harms – who was counselor for the fishing merit badge and did his usual fantastic job of overseeing the TFC patrols
- Janine Amy – who arranged for the family ski boat and also was counselor for the waterskiing merit badge
- Jorn Peterson – who supervised three shifts of extremely hot and difficult service project cleanup and helped keep things organized
- Steve Vernino – who did a little of everything, including encouraging the campfire ceremony, helped out on the service project and with departure on Sunday
- Dale Wolter – who served as adult grubmaster and (as usual) did a little bit of everything else to help out
- Jon Kirkegaard – who drove a ski boat for four hot hours in the afternoon and helped teach waterskiing
- Dan Williamson – who put in shifts in the ski boat and the service project
- Joe Mendez – who helped out on Friday night and with the service project
- Cindy Grimshaw – who handled the Friday Scout Hut departure
- Rana Saad – who helped oversee our TFC Grubmasters at the campout as they prepared and cooked the fish and side dishes – doing just enough to keep the boys on track – but letting them do all the work and get the satisfaction of a job well done
- Tara Chittoor – who helped organize the initial shopping for the TFC grubmasters
- Ellen Crim – who pitched in at the last minute to drive some scouts up to the campout on Friday night when we were a little short of drivers
- Barth Tillotson – who provided good guidance on campout planning
- Michael Burns – who helped keep the email communications flowing
Finally, there were several boys whose efforts should be noted - Parker Amy – who originally proposed the idea for a water sports campout, and who also spent most of the day in the boat helping out the skiiers
- Marty Rosen – who suggested Hidden Cove Park for the location and whose enthusiasm for fishing helped encourage our Fishing Guide, Bill Llewellyn to donate his time and expertise
- Danny Saad and Andrew Chittoor – who prepared and served fish for over 30 people, as well as preparing sides not just for their patrol, but for an older patrol whose grubmaster cancelled at the last minute
- Austin Buch – who earned top honors for most trash collected on the service project
- Austin Burns and Christopher Vernino – who ran the Saturday night campout and fulfilled that portion of their Communication Merit Badge requirements
If I left anyone out, my apologies! Thanks to everyone who pitched in to help! - Henry Rosen Editor's Note: Jorn, Barth, and I wish to extend a very special Thank You to Henry Rosen for the wonderful job he did putting this trip together. He started with the general directive to "lead a water sports campout in September" and worked very hard to produce an awesome scout weekend. Probably the ultimate thanks comes in hearing that upon my arrival at camp on Sunday morning, I heard many comments like "This was the best campout ever!" (or at least since the last best campout in August.)
