Troop Lock-In Tonight As disucssed at the last two troop meetings, here are details for the lock-in tonight.
- 6:00pm Mass. For catholic scouts, tomorrow is a holy day of obligation. Rather than fall asleep during mass in the morning, we will meet for mass at 6:00 pm in the church.. Please come in Class A uniform for mass.
- 7:00 pm Drop-Off. After mass, and for non-catholic scouts, we will gather in the family center lounge downstairs.
- Sign-In/$5 fee. Parents must sign in their sons, provide an emergency number on the sign-in form, and pay $5 per boy for pizza.
- Lock-In. As the name says, we will be LOCKED-IN for the night. Boys must agree to not exit the building until signed out by a parent.
- 8:00 am Pick Up!. Boys must be picked up by 8:00 am. After staying up all night, at least the leaders, if not the boys, will be ready for some sleep. A little incentive to be on-time is that anyone picking up their son at 8:01 or later is automatically signed up to supervise next year's lock-in.
- Webelos. The 2nd year Webelos have been invited to join us until 11pm. Let's be gracious hosts to our guests who will be brother scouts in a little over a month.
- Adult Supervsors. The followoing wonderful folks have agreed to lead the program tonight. If your name is not on the list, please feel free to volunteer anyway (as long as you have your safety clearance through BSA and your St. Monica badge).
- 7:00pm to 2:00am
- Jorn Petersen
- Dale Wolter
- Mike Bausch
- Eleida Gonzalez
- Siromi Nadarajah
- Kamu Konduri
- 2:00am - 8:00am (yawn)
- Michael Burns
- Kurt Harms
- Steve Vernino
- Dale "All Night" Wolter
- What to wear. Please wear class B t-shirts for the evening. I'd recommend atheletic shorts and shoes. Pajama's are stricly optional.
- What will we do all night.
- The Sports Zone. The Big gym is reserved for sports. We will work up a sweat playing basketball, football, or frisbee. Last time we had lock-in, there was an intense game of Air Force (sort of like basketball with a football, and it doesn't penalize those of us with limited hoops skills) that went on from mid-night to 2am.
- The Game Zone. Boys may set up their game consoles in the small gym. Note that they also have to bring a TV and an extension cord. Please make sure games are reasonable for scouts as young as 11 years old. If a game is rated "M" just for music and you can play it on mute, then that will "probably" be allowed. Also, label your stuff. The consoles, controllers, and game cartidges look a lot alike.
- One year, a group of older scouts brought an old fashioned board game. They spent most of the night battling for world domination over a game of Risk. I think they had more fun than anyone else that night.
- The Movie Zone. We will play movies all night on the projector in the down stairs lounge. Bring your favorite DVD and we'll vote on what to watch. Movies must be rated PG or safer. Adults on-site will make the final decision as to what is appropriate for a scout event.
- Food. We'll order in pizza after the boys arrive. You are free to bring snacks (chips, cookies,...) and/or drinks for the evening. We ask that no soft-drinks be taken into the gyms. Spilled cola is a big problem for sports and for game consoles.
- Sleep. Believe it or not, some people have been known to sleep for an hour or two (or 3 or 4) at previous lock-ins. Bring a sleeping pad/bag/pillow as you see fit.
- Clean Up. The 11th point of the scout law is "Clean". At 7am, we'll wake up anyone who is sleeping and clean up after ourselves. There is a parish event in the lounge at 9:30, so we have to vacuum and put the tables in place before we leave at 8am sharp.
This is always a fun event for the boys. I hope to see you there tonight.
