Empowering families to share Catholic Culture. At Catholic Schoolhouse we bring families together, allowing them to share and experience immersion in a loving Catholic Community – a community that strives to grow in virtue and holiness. Together we encounter the true, good, and beautiful while forming tomorrow’s Catholic adults to be light in the world.
Catholic Schoolhouse was founded in 2007 to enhance education in the grammar stage by providing classical memory work for Catholic homeschoolers. Going beyond simple memory work, the developers enlisted experts in all areas of study and a wide variety of resources, Catholic and secular, homeschool, and non-homeschool to determine what information is typically encountered during the elementary school years (K-8). Topics are introduced over a three-year cycle, with one year each focused on American history, ancient history through Middle Ages, and Renaissance through modern world history, respectively.
Over the years, CSH has expanded its programs to include Pre-Grammar for our youngest scholars and Dialectic and Rhetoric (Upper Level) to serve homeschool scholars through the high school years. Pre-grammar introduces children to the truth, goodness, and beauty of our Catholic faith and the world around us while encouraging growth in virtue. In the Upper-Level programs, scholars learn to think well, speak well, and write well while growing in understanding of our faith, and the ability to share and defend it.
Catholic Schoolhouse, Inc. is a 501(c)(3), all-volunteer organization. CSH is a flexible program that emphasizes family unity throughout all its programs. We strive to grow in virtue together as we live our Catholic faith in the community. We have about 90 affiliated chapters across the United States, ranging from six to forty families each, and new chapters open every year. In 2022-23, CSH serves 1,555 registered families, a total of 4,910 scholars
How is Catholic Schoolhouse classical?
The Catholic Schoolhouse classical method embraces the natural developmental stages that each child progresses through as they grow. In the Grammar stage, the child’s brain is wired for memory. Classical memory work grabs this opportunity for the child to absorb many facts and information, which become hooks on which they can depend for future learning. Our Dialectic program helps scholars to analyze and discuss information in a respectful way while making connections across subject areas. In the Rhetoric years, our scholars gain confidence with communication skills, so they are prepared to be the Light of Christ in the world.
Classical education is holistic: it is not limited to the training of the intellect but aims to form the emotions, the will, and the aesthetic sense. It fosters a love for the Good, the True, and the Beautiful wherever they may be found. Its goal is to produce men and women both knowledgeable and virtuous.
